'No fuss' private cremation for David Bowie
By Michael Mitchell Jan 20, 2016Just three days earlier on his 69th birthday, the singer had released his last album Blackstar, winning positive reviews from critics.
"When I logged onto Facebook on Monday morning I had several posts asking if it was painted as a tribute or was just sheer coincidence in terms of timing, which it obviously was".
The late musician, who passed away following an 18-month battle with cancer, will be honoured at next month's ceremony at London's O2 Arena on February 24th.
Bowie had kept his terminal liver cancer secret for over a year, sharing the information with only those closest to him, Belgian theatre director Ivo van Hove said. "While many of you will share in this loss, we ask that you respect the family's privacy during their time of grief".
"I have been a loyal fan since (the first) concert (I went to) in 1973".
"We will take to the grave the moments we shared - talking, playing music and collaborating - as some of the most profound and memorable moments of our lives". I knew him as a very good man, a good person.
Elton has chose to dedicate one of these new songs to David. It ends with the poignant. Bowie's final music video for the song "Lazarus" alludes to the late rocker's death as he lies in a hospital bed and sings: "Look up here, I'm in heaven. Oh, I'll be free, Just like that bluebird".

The event will see music played from across Bowie's extended career, in what is sure to be an emotional affair for all Warwickshire music fans.
A concert originally set up as a tribute at Carnegie Hall will be transformed into a memorial taking place in March.
What is clear is that Bowie's "sudden burst of new projects", as the Times puts it, was likely meant as a farewell, as both the Times and the Sydney Morning Herald report.
