Browns To Cut Johnny Manziel

The Browns said in a statement, Tuesday, Feb. 2, 2016, that Manziel's troubles off the field have undermined his teammates and the organization. The Browns released a statement from new director of football operations Sashi Brown on Tuesday that expressed disappointment in Manziel but stopped short of saying the quarterback's run in Cleveland is over.

New head coach Hue Jackson never appeared to be high on Johnny Manziel to begin with, and the troubled quarterback has done nothing to make Cleveland feel he should be their franchise QB since Jackson's signing.

The Cleveland Browns will reportedly release quarterback Johnny Manziel when the new NFL league year begins on March 9, according to multiple media reports.

Johnny Manziel's future in the National Football League is now in question, and there's no doubt that we'll see rumors about him going to play in Dallas for Jerry Jones, who allegedly wanted him in 2014, or in San Francisco for Chip Kelly, who tried to recruit him to play under him at Oregon. Most recently, police were called to investigate an alleged assault potentially involving Manziel on Saturday.

Manziel has been the center of a lengthy list of questionable conduct incidents during his two years in the NFL.

The first day league rules allow teams to address roster issues is Monday. In early January, Manziel was deactivated for the Browns final game due to concussion protocol. Crowley was uncooperative with officers but said she was involved in a disturbance with an ex-boyfriend. Releasing Manziel will count $4.6 million against the cap. "We will have no further comment at this time", he added. Fort Worth and Dallas police are working together to determine whether any criminal offenses occurred, and NFL spokesman Greg Aiello told ESPN that the league was aware of the situation and was "looking into it".

According to Pat McManamon of ESPN, the Cleveland Browns will rid themselves as soon as they can.

On the field, Manziel showed some improvement in his second season, throwing for seven touchdowns in six starts with two victories. Obviously, that reflected differently on what we want to have happen. And all this comes after he spent 10 weeks of the 2015 offseason in a Pennsylvania rehab facility specializing in alcohol and substance abuse.

BRIEFS: Ex-Cowboys running back Joseph Randle denied a report that he was cut by the team midway through this season in part because he was betting on sports.
