Lady Gaga to sing National Anthem at Super Bowl 50
By Veronica Peterson Feb 03, 20162, 2016, that Gaga will sing The Star-Spangled Banner at Levis Stadium in Santa Clara, Calif., where the Carolina Panthers will take on the Denver Broncos.
Multi-platinum singer and Golden Globe victor Lady Gaga is set to perform the "Star Spangled Banner" at the Super Bowl this Sunday on CBS.
The performance will be televised live on CBS, which has rights to broadcast the game, prior to kick-off.
Academy Award-winning actress Marlee Matlin, meanwhile, will perform in American Sign Language during this rendition of the country's theme song. Before that, we learned that the game's halftime extravaganza would feature Beyonce and Coldplay.
This announcement comes on the heels of another big performance for the Grammy-winning star.
The music legend, who passed away on 10 January (16) after a battle with cancer, is to be awarded the organisation's Lifetime Achievement prize.
With this honor, Lady Gaga joins an impressive rundown of artists who have opened the most-watched sporting event on the planet with a nod to their nation. The song is also nominated for a Grammy at the February 15 awards show, where Gaga will pay tribute to David Bowie with a performance.
Lady Gaga has increasingly traded her ostentatious stage persona to focus on singing pop classics, performing duets with 89-year-old Tony Bennett.
