Johnny Manziel's latest scrape with law under 'ongoing' review by NFL
By Nichole Jefferson Feb 02, 2016According to a police report out of Fort Worth, Texas, Cleveland Browns quarterback Johnny Manziel was involved in an altercation with his girlfriend but was not arrested.
The woman was uncooperative and they were unable to locate a crime scene within the Fort Worth jurisdiction, however, officers prepared the report nonetheless, and the information was forwarded to detectives for further investigation. With the groundswell of concern, the Browns issued a statement from Executive Vice President Sashi Brown which may clue us into just how long Manziel has left on their roster.
In October, police in Avon, Ohio, received an emergency call after Manziel and Colleen Crowley were spotted fighting as they drove near the quarterback's home on the west side of Cleveland.
Manziel also could face discipline from the National Football League, which is investigating the second domestic incident involving the 2012 Heisman Trophy victor.
The Fort Worth Police Dept. says Johnny Manziel's celebrity status had NOTHING to do with the decision to send a chopper to look for him after an incident with his ex-GF this weekend.
Crowley, who was drunk at the time, later changed her story and said Manziel didn't harm her. The couple told police they had been drinking alcohol earlier in the day.
His latest off-field problem won't help his standing with the Browns, who seem to be distancing themselves from the 2012 Heisman Trophy victor from Texas A&M.; He missed the season finale against the Pittsburgh Steelers, due to a concussion. The Browns hold the No. 2 pick, so quarterback is strongly in play. He was fined for not reporting to the team's facility on January 3.
Rapoport previously reported that when new coach Hue Jackson took over the team, Manziel's fate was sealed. "I think that's undeniable", Haslam said Thursday night.
We've been clear about expectations for our players on and off the field.
The Browns can't waive Manziel until the league year begins March 9 because they've already exercised the option of moving their salary cap space from this year into next year.
