Stephen Colbert Moderates All-Trump Debate on 'Late Show'

At the event, Trump was joined by two other Republican presidential candidates, Mike Huckabee and Rick Santorum, who interestingly were the winners of the last two Iowa caucuses.

Texas Senator Ted Cruz, who is locked in a tight contest with Mr Trump in Iowa, opened the debate with an impression of the real estate mogul's frequent attacks on his opponents.

"I'm a maniac, and everyone on this stage is stupid fat and ugly". Roe named 2,807 torn between Cruz and Rubio, 3,185 split between Cruz and Ben Carson, and 9,131 between Cruz and Trump.

This isn't the first time Trump has been demanding money to appear at debates; he tried to force CNN to pay him $5 million to appear in a debate a year ago.

"A debate actually is a policy issue but I will say this, gosh if you guys ask one more mean question, I may have to leave the stage", Cruz added in his response at the debate.

"We have to stick up for ourselves as people and we have to stick up for our country if we're being mistreated", he told the rally.

Trump was referring to Cruz's response to a question from the Fox News moderators during the debate.

There's nothing Donald Trump likes more than being proven right, and so when debate viewership numbers for Thursday night's showdown on Fox News Channel came out, the Republican presidential frontrunner must have been skipping around his hotel hallways. And it was also the second least watched of the Republican debates this season.

Senator Rubio was quoted for saying that he had agreed to oppose legalization and citizen for illegal immigrants in 2010, before he had been elected as senator from the state of Florida. "The event could not have worked out better", he tweeted on Friday.

"Boy did they go after them. And if we capture them alive, we're sending them to Guantanamo". Colbert wondered as he flashed a photo of Hillary Clinton next to the candidate-but perhaps he has more to fear from the Late Show host. Chris Christie, former Gov. Jeb Bush, Gov. John Kasich and Sen.

Trump has made similar statements in the past - asking CNN to make a donation to a veterans group or he wouldn't agree to debate.

"The war between FOX and Trump is just ready to explode", Schultz remarked.

Fox said its chairman, Roger Ailes, "acknowledged (Trump's) concerns" in three phone conversations with the candidate Thursday, but wouldn't agree to Trump's conditions for coming to the debate.
