Mexican authorities release new El Chapo mugshot

Mexican forces recaptured drug kingpin Joaquin "El Chapo" Guzman last week - six months after his prison escape.

The series is slated to be called "Joaquín "El Chapo" Guzman: El varon de la droga", which loosely translates as "The Drug Baron".

In Los Mochis, the drug lord's last underground escape route was in a bedroom where the bed's mattress was almost on the ground and men's clothing was strewn about the floor.

Video was released from the helmet cams from some of the Mexican marines who were involved in the raid.

Mexico has said it plans to extradite Guzman, head of the Sinaloa drug cartel, to the United States, where he is wanted for exporting hundreds of tonnes of cocaine, methamphetamine and heroin across the border. Mexican Attorney General Arely Gomez said extradition proceedings should begin. The shop proceeded to advertise the product on its Facebook page as "Barabas "El Chapo" Shirts", encouraging shoppers to "like" Barabas on Facebook and Instagram for a chance to win one of these coveted products. "Stay calm, buddy", one marine told him.

Mexican officials have said that contacts between Guzman's lawyers and Penn and actress Kate del Castillo helped them track down the fugitive and they raided his hideout in rural Durango state a few days after their October 2 meeting.

He also reportedly asked which movies Penn appeared in.

The messages provide a new window into the mysterious relationship between the then-fugitive and Del Castillo, who brokered the sitdown between Guzman and Penn, which authorities are investigating.

Guzman and Gastelum fled through the drainage network for about one kilometre until they finally escaped out of a manhole. But he was captured in a vehicle on the highway. Somehow, in all his words, Penn managed not to include their voices, or of those who live in the drug war zone where he wrote that Guzman is a "Robin Hood-like figure".

He also rejected claims he was responsible for the high levels of drug addiction in the world - adding: "The day I don't exist, it's not going to decrease in any way at all". "Drug trafficking? That's false".

The actress who set up Sean Penn's interview with Mexico's most-wanted drug lord says people are lying about the case.

El Chapo, who tried to trademark his name before escaping from prison a year ago, wants to make a film about his life, an underlying reason for his meeting with Penn and Castillo.
