49ers hire Chip Kelly: 'Chip has a proven track record'
By Nichole Jefferson Jan 21, 2016On Thursday, a new era began for both the New York Giants and San Francisco 49ers. He had a 46-7 record through four seasons at the collegiate level. "... If Kelly can straighten things out with Kaepernick and get him back to the way he was, this team could catapult way back up the ranks and be a contender again". "Trent Baalke's going to handle the draft, and Chip Kelly is going to coach the football team", Kiper said on a conference call.
"Chip possesses all the qualities we were looking for in our next head coach", Baalke said in a statement.
Consider this, from a discussion I had with Shady McCoy (yes, the same guy who purportedly can't stand Chip now) back in December 2013 on sports science: "It's the small things you don't think about: the nutrition, the sleep, the way we train". It's him knowing everybody individually, how hard they're working.
Takeaways: As there is plenty of interest in what the 49ers will do under center in 2016, this story includes a look at Kelly as a quarterbacks coach.
"When you make a decision the Monday after the last regular season game or a playoff loss the players really go for some physicals and disperse, they're anxious to go home". All eyes will be focused on whether or not he will be able to turn a 49ers team around who has struggled mightily over the last two seasons.
That puts him at the top of the personnel department, according to the 49ers front-office listings, and that should at least make the coach comfortable with the information being distributed to general manager Trent Baalke. As one of the most historic franchises in the National Football League, I realize the high standards and expectations that this position demands and I embrace the challenges ahead. But the question is - if you could not get along with Jim Harbaugh, how are you going to get along with Chip Kelly? San Francisco had been linked to names such as Hue Jackson, Tom Coughlin and Mike Holmgren before the team came to terms with Kelly.
"I think it is great that Chip Kelly got the 49ers job".
San Francisco endured a torrid campaign and finished 5-11 leading to Jim Tomsula being fired.
"Most people were very receptive to it, [but] some guys were like: 'What are we doing; why are we doing this?' " a former Eagles player said in the article, adding as quickly as players learned how to cheat the hydration test, adding a splash of water from the urinal, Kelly ordered the system revamped to discourage diluters. And I think Chip Kelly will be the same way.
BRIEFS: Bears RT Kyle Long and Vikings DE Everson Griffen will replace injured Eagles LT Jason Peters and Texans DE J.J. Watt at the Pro Bowl. And while Kelly has his shortcomings, he also has a history of making quarterbacks more efficient. In Philadelphia, his starting quarterbacks were Nick Foles and Sam Bradford, who have combined to average 6.2 rushing yards and 2.8 yards a carry in 102 combined career games.
