Celine Dion's brother passes away just days after her husband

The Canadian singer-songwriter's brother Daniel died of cancer Saturday in a palliative care residence outside Montreal, the CBC reported.

The announcement of Daniel's passing comes during an extraordinarily hard time for Celine, who also lost her husband Rene to the disease last week.

Ms Dion's family paid tribute to the father-of-two, calling him "a gentle and reserved man of many talents". Daniel had cancer of the brain, tongue, and throat. "It's very painful. It's a matter of days or hours", she said.

Daniel is one of Dion's 13 siblings. "Our family is very experienced", Claudette told the Journal of Montreal.

It has been a hard week for Canadian singer Celine Dion, after two of her loved ones died because of cancer. This is the family's hometown and where Celine, her brother and the rest of her family grew up.

Numerous shows of Celine Dion have been cancelled including her shows in Caesars Palace in Las Vegas on January 16 and 17. She is respected to resume her residency at The Colosseum on February 23.

Dion and Angelil were married in 1994, when she was 26 and he was twice her age.

When Dion was 18, Angelil remade her image by changing her hair and capping her teeth, and enroll in English school so she could record songs for the USA market.

Dion has three sons with Angelil, Rene Charles, 14, and twin brothers Eddy and Nelson, five.
