Microsoft ends 'tech support, security updates' for Internet Explorer`s older versions

Windows 10 comes with a new browser called Microsoft Edge. Windows users should check whether their browser is up-to-date. Most people blame Microsoft's practice of pre-installing Internet Explorer with Windows starting in 1997, which contributed to a lengthy antitrust suit. The 7 and 8 versions will be discontinued.

Tech support and software updates for Windows 8 stopped on 13 January 2016.

The company has done it rather quickly, as they consider the Windows 8.1 Upgrade as a service pack, and as per their terms and conditions they can end support for older generation of windows devices two years after the release of a new service pack. It described Windows 8.1 as "similar to how customers deploy service packs", while instituting a 24-month service pack-like policy.
