Google Glass goes dark on its social media accounts

Google Glass' social media accounts, including Twitter, Google+ and Instagram, had continued to be updated with holiday messages and #throughGlass postings, which highlighted the uses of the headset, despite it not being available to the public for over a year.

Still, Google Glass isn't quite dead yet - more likely, just the name and the consumer version of the wearable is for now.

Writing in its final Google+ post on Friday (22 January 2016), the Google Glass account said: "Hi Explorers, we've had a blast hanging out with you on G+ throughout the Explorer Program".

Google just shut down all the social media accounts for Glass

The website reports that its Aura team is working on a few different devices and that one of them is a continuation of the Glass, now referred to as "EE", or the "Enterprise Edition".

Alphabet Inc's Google stopped selling Glass to consumers a year ago, noting it was time for a strategy reset. It went on to instruct users to get in touch with questions on the support page for Glass.

On Twitter, many interpreted the disappearance of Glass's social accounts on Tuesday to mean an end to efforts to market the product to consumers. Companies involved in Google's Glass for Work programme have been receiving the new version since early 2015, but have agree not to release images or information to the public.
