Kia has confirmed that the Niro will be offered with a hybrid powertrain - a 105 PS/147 Nm 1.6 litre GDI direct-injected petrol engine mated to a 35 kW (47 hp) electric motor, a 1.56 kWh battery and a six-speed dual-clutch transmission, producing under 90 grams of Carbon dioxide per kilometre combined on the New European Driving Cycle (NEDC). Resulting from the collaboration between the two studios is a sleek auto with sculpted surfaces that remind us of the current Sportage compact SUV.
Under the skin, Kia has been more adventurous with the Niro.

Hepworth noted that if the model is only available as a hybrid, it would be a hard sell in Australia, because unlike many other major vehicle markets there are no government incentives to make hybrid cars more appealing here. The Kia Niro was originally shown in concept form at the 2013 Frankfurt Motor Show and we've already been treated to a drive in a disguised prototype of the Niro production vehicle but now the Niro's arrival in showrooms is drawing closer. "There's a spot in our garage for an SUV of that size". It's part of the Kia's plan to make low-emission motoring fun.
